The book is a two-fold story of my life, the trials of tragedy, the joys of love and family, the strengthening of faith, and how all of that prepared me for the gift of Amy, my youngest daughter of 6, who has Down syndrome. The story is meant to encourage mothers, family and friends of special needs people. It has a Christian perspective theme throughout the entire work.

What a beautiful story! You and your family truly appreciate the gifts you have been given and the value of those gifts. I absolutely love your expectations of parenting and the role you played in reinforcing those expectations in so many aspects of Amy's life - her healthcare, her friends, her schooling, her personal appearance, her extra curricular activities, etc. I literally laughed out loud several times when you were stern in your responses simply because so many parents are afraid to say those words that kids need to hear to be guided in becoming selfless individuals. Thank you for sharing your heartaches, your true feelings, and invaluable learnings of raising such a beautiful young lady and family! Blessings to you all!Product details

Chosen For This Gift My Story of Hope Survival and Raising a Child with Special Needs eBook Barb Felt Reviews
This book is a great resource for parents and therapists working with families of children that have special needs. I am a marriage and family therapist. I read the book yesterday in one sitting and recommended it to two of my families today. Inspirational, uplifting and a light of hope for people. God Bless Barb and Family for this great resource.
This book is about perseverance and believing in the goodness of God and of life, despite incredible hardship and tradegy. It also highlights the love that a child with Down's Syndrome brings to her family, her school, and her community. From practical tips for parenting a child with special needs, to the role of faith in celebrating her triumphs and negotiating her frustrations, this book is both educational and inspirational.
This book is a must read for all parents! Even if your child doesn't have special needs, I guarantee that your child or you will come into contact with one who does and it's an excellent way to help your child (or you) learn ways on how to be a friend to them. It is full of ideas and real life examples. The author's story will touch your heart from the first page and you will want to finish it the moment you start. There are some major "friendship" skills to be learned by this well written book.
This story is an invaluable resource of how a family perseveres together through various tragedies and losses in their lives. The honesty of the pain and the emotions of one's grief and loss journey through a strong Christian Faith validate experiences others may have with grief and loss. Through it all, one can feel the hope, strength, forgiveness, wisdom and love to press on. The celebration of love and life is evident through raising Amy and how the roles of one's entire family and community make this happen.
This book is truly a gift for anyone to read.
Read this book in one sitting, captivated by the honesty and sincerity of the author as she shares her life and experiences falling in love with a child she didn't expect or understand. Ms. Felt nails it as she writes about the struggles, fears, and raw emotions which accompany a life event like giving birth to a child with Down Syndrome. She masterfully shares how God showed his powerful hand in leading her and her husband through immeasurable pain to bring them to a place of peace, joy and contentment. No matter what your situation is, this book will bring you to a better place!
Did not like this book at all!
I just finished reading this book and it is amazing! It touched my heart in so many ways. It gives you so much hope and inspiration - the book is a must read for all parents, not just those of special needs kids. It is really great to see and understand the point of view from the parent of a special needs child. I think it gives us all encouragement and ideas in raising our children whether they are special needs or not. The ideas on how to communicate with your teachers and educators are invaluable - it is a great read for anyone of any age! My 13 year old just started reading it today! GREAT GREAT BOOK!
